Hinkley Point C is working with colleges and training providers in the South West in developing a pool of skilled operatives in preparation for the increased demand of the MEH Alliance works, requiring an array of skill trades across multiple disciplines. There will also be opportunities for local people with no experience in engineering construction to develop skills and gain experience. Training will be delivered in one of the dedicated local Centres of Excellence, which are part of Hinkley Point C’s ‘£24 million invested directly into Education, Skills and Employment.

Hinkley Point C’s has created 1,100 apprenticeships to date. Throughout the mechanical, electrical and HVAC installation phase, over 300 apprentices will be trained through MEH Alliance and they will play a vital role in the successful delivery of the power station, powering low carbon electricity to over 6 million homes. Our apprentices are the definition of our future – securing a sustainable career for the younger generation and help the nation overcome critical skills shortages.

To deliver the first generation European Pressurised Water Reactors (EPR) in the UK, we will need a diverse workforce from different backgrounds, bringing a wealth of experience to the Project.

Hinkley Point C will be our first step in our journey to secure low carbon energy, and it will not stop here. Our ambition in achieving Net Zero by 2050 opens a new realm of sustainable career opportunities which will extend across the nuclear sector.
