MEH Alliance Polar Crane Scaffold shortlisted for 2023 NASC Award

The MEH Alliance Scaffolding Team has earned a spot as a finalist in this year’s National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) Awards for the Large Project of the Year category. This recognition comes from their impressive work on the Polar Crane Access at Hinkley Point C.

As a tier 1 contractor at Hinkley Point C, MEH Alliance is responsible for the mechanical, electrical, air ventilation and conditioning installations. The team is a partnership between EDF UK and four joint venture companies: Altrad, Cavendish Nuclear, Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick, and NG Bailey.

Earlier this year, they successfully constructed a 20-metre-tall scaffolding structure. This towering achievement now serves as the temporary residence for Hinkley Point C’s Polar Crane whilst the other contractor assembles the heavy lifting equipment to support the “Dome Lift” milestone.

A team of ten dedicated scaffolders, including a supervisor, worked full-time over three months to transform 1,000 tonnes of material into this monumental structure. Adding the finishing touch, more than 6,000 metres of white sheeting was wrapped around the scaffold to weatherproof the workspace.
We wish the team best of luck at the award ceremony on 17 November at Westminster Bridge Park Plaza, London!
