Women in Construction Week 2024 – Meet Laura Jones, Assistant Project Manager

“I joined Hinkley Point C at the Induction Centre in a supervisory role, where I learned lots about the project. But quickly decided I wanted a bigger challenge, so after taking a project management course, I was lucky enough to land a role with the mechanical (piping) team.

“We supply steel pipe that the MEH Alliance will install on site. It’s a challenging job, but I really enjoy it. I know I don’t have the nuclear experience that lots of other people have, but I am developing my skills, and have lots of support from my team.

“I look after everything that comes out of fabrication through to delivering at Hinkley Point C’s storage facility. I speak daily with supplier over in Germany – my team were quite excited to find I can speak the language because I spent six years living in Germany.

“The construction industry is a largely male-dominated world, but my husband is ex-Army, so I’m used to living in that type of environment.

“Because of this, I don’t get offended easily. If anyone makes a sexist comment – which rarely happens to be fair – I’m happy to point out it’s not acceptable.”
